My Virus scanner reports that Win-Test is a Virus!

This is probably a false alarm, especially if you downloaded and installed Win-Test from the Official Win-Test download site.

Many virus scanners are especially prone to falsely reporting the "Artemis" or "Themida" virus in Win-Test Version 4, due to the way the executable is constructed.

You can always upload wt.exe to VirusTotal.com to test it with multiple scanners. If less than 25% of the virus scanners report an issue, it is likely that Win-Test is not infected, and you will need to add an "exception" to your antivirus software to allow Win-Test to run.

I entered my registration key but Win-Test still comes up in "Demo" mode

The registration keys for Win-Test Version 3 and Win-Test Version 4 are different. Even if you never purchased or installed Win-Test Version 4, you may have received a "free upgrade" email, especially if your purchased Win-Test Version 3 after June, 2008. If you received such an email, you are automatically going to receive only Version 4 registration keys when you request a key from the Win-Test Registration Page. Such keys do not work on Win-Test Version 3, though no error message is displayed. If you still require a Win-Test Version 3 registration key, you will need to request one by sending an email to F6FVY or F5MZN including your:

• Account Number
• Callsign
• Computer Code

Users who have not received a free upgrade to Version 4 and have not purchased an upgrade to Version 4 will still receive Version 3 registration keys from the web site.

I selected Help | Register Software, but don't see my Computer Code

Chances are you are running the free "demo" version of Win-Test 4. This version cannot be registered. Download and install the official version from The Official Version 4 Download Site (password required). Your password for the web site should be included in the "Upgrade" email that you should have received.

I requested a new registration key but I never received an email with the key

First, check your "Spam" folder, if any.

Next, please note that registration keys are sent to the email address you provided when you first purchased Win-Test. If you no longer have access to this email address, you will need to send an email to F6FVY or F5MZN including your:

• Account Number
• Callsign
• Old email address
• New email address

Why don't I see any packet spots in Win-Test?

Win-Test provides a separate program called wtDxTelnet to connect to packet cluster nodes over the Internet, and to other devices (TNCs or CW Skimmer). wtDxTelnet then shares these spots with one or more copies of Win-Test via local TCP/IP broadcast messages.

Both Win-Test and wtDxTelnet have to be configured to use the same broadcast address and port number, or else packet spots will not be seen by Win-Test, even if they are displayed OK by wtDxTelnet.

• If you are using a single computer for both logging and cluster connections (e.g. single-op assisted class), follow the procedure for Configuring wtDxTelnet (single-op environment). It explains how to use the "loopback" address so that all communication between Win-Test and wtDxTelnet stays inside the computer, instead of going over the LAN.

• If you are using multiple networked computers, and want to share spotting information between them (e.g. multi-single, multi-multi), follow the procedure for Configuring wtDxTelnet (multi-op environment). You only need to run wtDxTelnet on one computer in your network, not all of them.

In both environments, it is essential to configure the same broadcast address and port number in both programs.

Win-Test will automatically filter packet spots based on your current entry class (CW, Phone, Mixed), and the defined band plan.

Why do I see many duplicate packet spots in Win-Test?

If your PC as both a wired Ethernet port and a wireless LAN (WLAN) adapter active and connected to the same network, disable one of them.

Only run one copy of wtDxTelnet on the network.

When using Ethernet networking, do not select Network on any serial port. When using rig control, make sure that the proper serial port is marked Radio 1 or Radio 2, and configured properly.

Can I make wtDxTelnet start automatically when I start Win-Test?

Yes.

1. In Win-Test, select Options | DX Cluster ... | Local wtDxTelnet | Start/stop automatically
2. In wtDxTelnet, select Options | DxCluster Properties and check both:
   • Autoconnect at startup
   • Try to restore connection automatically

Can I connect to more than one cluster or to both CW Skimmer and a cluster?

Yes. Just start another wtDxTelnet window (Start | All Programs | Win-Test | wtDxTelnet), but specify a different hostname / DX Cluster. You need to run one copy of wtDxTelnet per remote cluster, TNC, or CW Skimmer.

For CW Skimmer running locally, use:

• Hostname/IP: localhost
• Port: 7300

Can I make multiple copies of wtDxTelnet start automatically and connect to different clusters?

No. Win-Test does not support starting more than a single copy of wtDxTelnet automatically, but you can start as many copies as you need manually by adding a wtDxTelnet shortcut to your Windows desktop or to your Windows "Quick Launch" bar.
