Using Win-Test on a DXpedition

In DXpedition mode, Win-Test allows you to add some information - like operator's name, QTH - to the QSO in an info field that can optionally be enabled through the DXpedition Options menu.

You may find the following information helpful for a DXpedition. It was contributed by several DXpeditioners.

Some useful hints:

• In the Contest Configuration dialog, click the [Days ...] button next to the Contest drop-down list to set the DXpedition duration (maximum 14 days). The default duration is 4 days. This value controls the width of the graphs in the Statistics window.
• To see - at a glance- on which bands and modes you have worked a specific station, use the Check Multipliers window (available by [F10]) with the automatic update enabled.
• Synchronizing logs:
  • Synchronizing should be turned on to make sure nothing is lost, even in case of RFI or a hardware failure. However, note that changes to existing QSOs will not propagate to computers that are not on the network while the change occurs. This is a known limitation.
  • To create a complete log, merge the different WTB files on an offline computer. The *.merge file will contain merge conflicts which you will have to sort out one by one (cannot be done by software).
• You plan to join a contest during the DXpedition? You have two choices:
  • If you are not interested in taking part: stay in DXpedition mode and just log the contacts either skipping the contest information or add it to the info field
  • If you plan to turn in a competitive log: split the Win-Test network in two (Win-Test does not allow different contest settings in a single network so you have to separate the stations doing contest from the rest of the DXpedition settup), create a new log for the contest and you are ready to go. Merge the contest log with the other logs later.
• It may be especially helpful on a DXpedition to remember that you can actually double click callsigns displayed in the Check Partial or N+1 Windows which will fill-in the callsign field. This comes in handy, when you have copied only parts of a callsign and finally spot the complete call in one of these two windows.
• Markers for beacons and band segments can by very handy on a DXpedition. See Extra Information in the Windows Menu for more information.
• There is no "zones worked" display in DXpedition mode.
• Duplicate contacts are normally not included in the figures of the Summary window (net total). However, there is a context menu option that will allow you to change this to display gross totals.
• Some keys like the [INS] and the [F3] keys have slightly different predefined CW messages.
